The exclusive chance to experience something new before anyone else; an opportunity to be a part of the development process; and the wonderful incentive at the end all drive them to sign up. However, beta testing is also a terrific experience for the manager.
- It’s great to connect with real customers. They’re enthusiastic, interested in your product, and motivated to share their thoughts. Beta testers are often fans of your product and are eager to sing your praises. It provides great encouragement to you and your development team.
- After months of development, it’s exciting to gain confirmation of theories and ideas about the product. Many times, marketing and engineering butt heads against each other about features and functionality. It’s refreshing to learn whether users like a particular design and if they value the changes your team has made.
- Discovering new and creative ideas that will help improve future products is an essential value of a beta testing. Many times your testers will come up with incredible “Why didn’t I think of that???”? ideas for improvements. These suggestions will no doubt bring a smile to your face with their “pie in the sky”? mentality but ultimately it’s their enthusiasm that wins you over.
- Building a network of users is a true reward of testing. Creating relationships that not only improve your product but help you build a successful test program is one of the best things about a good beta program. The people you meet and work with will often grow to become both friends and partners in your success.
